ESB Avalon 32 vs Solar Storm 32R: Home Beds Compared

Quick answer

Choose the ESB Avalon 32 if you need a 110V plug-and-play bed with a premium look. Go with the Solar Storm 32R if you have 220V wiring and want a longer 78-inch tanning surface with higher total lamp wattage.

Voltage and installation differences

The most immediate difference between these two beds is the electrical requirement. The ESB Avalon 32 runs on standard 110V household current, so you can plug it into a regular outlet without hiring an electrician. The Solar Storm 32R requires a 220V dedicated circuit, which may need professional installation if your home doesn't already have one.

If you rent your home or don't want to modify your electrical panel, the Avalon 32 is the simpler choice. If you're setting up a dedicated tanning room and can run a 220V line, the Solar Storm 32R gives you more tanning power per session.

Tanning surface and comfort

Both beds use 32 lamps, but the Solar Storm 32R offers a 78-inch tanning surface, which is longer than the standard 72-inch bed. Taller users will appreciate the extra room. The Avalon 32 uses a standard length, so if you're over 6 feet tall, you may need to shift position during a session.

The Solar Storm 32R also features a contour tunnel design that wraps around your body for more even exposure. The Avalon 32 focuses on comfort with a refined build, but its design is more traditional.

Lamp power and tanning time

The Solar Storm 32R is rated at 3200 watts of tanning power, which allows for a 15-minute session. The Avalon 32 uses 32 lamps as well, but its total wattage is lower because it runs on 110V. This means the Avalon 32 may require longer sessions to achieve the same tanning results.

If you want faster sessions and don't mind the 220V requirement, the Solar Storm 32R is the more powerful option. If you prefer shorter but more frequent sessions and need 110V compatibility, the Avalon 32 still delivers a rich, dark tan with consistent lamp output.

Trade-offs at a glance
